Dream Again gives us cheerful children and fearful parents, quiet clearings and hungry predators, new life and scars of an old war, sharpened knives and loaded guns, tales of strange beasts lurking in the woods, and a sky full of stars, always asking “what do you do next?”

A game of belonging outside belonging about a family-centric commune hiding in the Scandinavian woods, set in an alternate version of the 20th century where a one-world government tears family apart, seeing them as the root of tribalism. Based off Within the Wires by Jeffery Cranor and Janina Matthewson.

This game is still in development! I have all setting elements but only 4 completed playbooks, so you'll only be able to play with 3-4 people. It also doesn't yet include rules for play, so you'll need to know how to play belonging outside belonging games. I intend to write a how-to-play in future. The free play kits for Dream Askew and Dream Apart both provide brief explanations of the basic rules. I plan to have the other two playbooks completed by the end of the week and a how to play section by the end of the month.

This is my first published rpg and my first belonging outside belonging game. Tell me what you think!

You will need:

  • A printed copy of the playkit (the pdf on the page)
  • Something to use as tokens
  • 2-3 friends to play with
  • Pencils or pens to write with
  • Prior knowledge of belonging outside belonging games or a printed copy of the How To Play section of Dream Askew or Dream Apart.
  • That's it!

Based off of Within the Wires, a podcast by Jeffery Cranor and Janina Matthewson.

Built off of the No Dice, No Masters system created by Avery Alder and Ben Rosenbloom.

Several of the moves, tips and lures were taken from or inspired by other games in the system, namely Dream Askew by Avery Alder, Dream Apart by Ben Rosenbloom, The Glass Dream Game by Benjamin Rosenbaum and Heaven Has No Taste; And Other True Statements by Atlas Sellman and Luke Jordan.

Special thanks to  Atlas Sellman for his immensely helpful feedback on playbook design, Luke Jordan for giving all sorts of advice and my playtesters (two friends of mine who haven't agreed to me putting their names up on the internet.)
